Photographer and filmmaker Nick Clements, who is also the editor-in-chief of Men’s File magazine, has always been fascinated by both the imagery and techniques of Italian post-war cinema. More specifically his focus has been on the work of the core directors of a genre known as Neorealism.
When conditions are right Clements transplants himself to remote Italian enclaves-of-style and attempts a reenactment of Italian life in the late 1940s and early 1950s. His aim is to recreate the mood and elegance of that period and make images that evoke this romantic epoch in filmmaking. In this series of photographs he was sponsored by Bologna based work-wear makers Scarti-Lab – an atelier that seems able to make an entire wardrobe for the connoisseur of vintage style.
