Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is “a public not-for-profit contemporary art museum which collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits twenty-first century art from Africa and its Diaspora“ (zeitzmocaa.museum).
They host international exhibitions and develop supporting educational and enrichment programmes to strengthen the understanding of interculturality amongst their visitors. They consequently aspire to guarantee access to all those who are interested in learning about African art and history.
Museum MOCAA is modern, elegant and a real eye catcher. Designed by renowned designer, Thomas Heatherwick and his team of architects, there is no one building of comparable liking and fashion. Expanded across nine floors there are over one hundred galleries devoted to a large innovative permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and centers for Art Education, Curatorial Excellence, Performative Practice and Photography.
Additionally, visitors are invited to enjoy exemplary culinary creations and South African flavors at the Zeitz MOCAA Food, located on the 6th floor of the museum. The Zeitz MOCAA Museum Pop-up Shop also showcases “a selection of art-led contemporary design, books, prints, stationery, gifts, jewellery and fashion by leading design companies from South Africa, the African continent and beyond“ (zeitzmocaa.museum). The Museum Pop-up Shop is perfect for finding little gifts and souvenirs to take with and treasure after a memorable visit at the museum.
