1984 Porsche 911 Carrera ’Safari’

Originally delivered in Germany, this desirable European-specification 1984 Carrera Coupe evokes memories of 911s prepared by Porsche for international rallies.

The 911 was acquired about six years ago by a New Jersey enthusiast who desired a road car he could drive throughout the winter without regard to road conditions. Noted Porsche specialists John and Ray Paterek of Chatham, New Jersey, removed all the sound insulation, installed a full roll cage and a pair of custom seats with leatherette and fabric upholstery, added lightweight carpeting, and replaced the stock air-conditioning system with a simple heat control.

The ride height was raised for additional ground clearance, and the suspension realigned. Custom-fabricated skid plates and bumper loops were installed, along with a set of large driving lamps and extra air horns. An additional spot-lamp was mounted to the right-front fender, and there is a 1973 RS-style ducktail on the engine cover.

The consignor states that the drivetrain and other mechanical systems were recently serviced, and the motor was enhanced with a free-flow dual-outlet exhaust and a performance chip. Finished in its original Grand Prix White with added red striping, this Carrera retains its original German decals in the engine bay and luggage compartment. It is offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, tool kit, owner’s manual, spare, jack, removed factory parts, and AutoCheck and CARFAX Vehicle History Reports. For the enthusiast who savors the road – paved or not – this Euro-spec Carrera represents a delightful opportunity.
