Watch Is Movement, Movement Is Watch: B&R BR-X2 Tourbillon

The movement developed and manufactured for the BRX2 is square and thin, it is called the caliber BR380. With this time piece, Bell & Ross is going extreme into the simplification of watchmaking construction.

The square shape is a strong marker of Bell & Ross identity. Over time, the square shape has been extended from large size BR01 to smaller dimensions with BR03 and BRS, as well as extreme versions of BRX1 chronographs.
So far, Haute Horlogerie calibers have been housed In BR01 and BRX1 time pieces: Regulator tourbillon and Grand Minuteur Tourbillon in BR01, Skeleton Chronograph Tourbillon in BR-X1.
For BR-X2 Concept, we decided to follow one simple guideline: magnifying the movement in the iconic Bell & Ross square shape.

A unique minimalistic construction

For BR-X2 Concept it is impossible to talk about a case. Its majesty the movement is not housed in a traditional watch case, it is framed inside a holder.
The frame is cut in a solid plate of stainless steel as thin as the movement itself.
The continuity between the frame and the movement is then obvious.
To protect the movement from outside hazards, the frame is closed with two plates of sapphire, one on top, the other one on the back. These plates are milled and polished for hours and hours to achieve the perfect shape and clarity. Large beveled facets enrich the sides of both plates.
The two plates seat on translucent gaskets for compensation as well as water resistance. They are adjusted to the frame with the help of four screws.

A watchmaking movement

Square time piece means square movement. This single fact is not obvious in the world of watch making where most movements are round, few are rectangular or barrel shaped. The movement developed and manufactured for BR-X2 Concept is square and thin: 36 mm by 36 mm with a height as low as 4.05 mm.
On the front side, the main plate opens around the flying tourbillon cage and above the winding rotor.

On the back side, three bridges with beveled angles let see the micro-rotor.257 pieces are cut with the highest precision, then hand-assembled and adjusted by talented watch makers working yearlong only on Grande Complications.

Mobile parts rotate on 31 ruby jewels.
Finishing have to be modern to express the instrumental personality of Bell & Ross: no traditional Côtes de Genève, no polished bevels. Fine linear brushing on the surfaces and soft ball blasting on the bevels. This unusual choice enhances BR-X2 Concept’s modernity.
